A standard paper filter traps dirt by blocking it, so the more it catches the more it chokes. BMC works differently: multiple layers of cotton fabric soaked in low-viscosity oil are held between two aluminium mesh frames, and the oil captures particles as air passes through.
The mesh is coated in epoxy resin so fuel vapours cannot oxidise it. The whole filter is formed in a single mould — BMC calls it Full Moulding — which is why there are no glued corners to come apart. It arrives pre-oiled and ready to fit.
Cleaning intervals vary with climate and terrain. In Qatar's dust and summer heat we usually recommend checking the filter at every service and cleaning it toward the shorter end of that range.
